This weekend I had the great joy of modeling for the very first time! This was an actual paid modeling gig! The organizer of a wedding show contacted me via Instagram and asked me to model wedding dresses at the show. Of course I said yes! What could be better than dressing up in some wedding dresses right? I send her my sizes, height, etc and she confirmed that the bridal boutique had my size. I told her a size 18/20 and they had a couple size 20’s.

I was, of course, slightly nervous as this was something I’d never done before but also excited! I had no idea what to expect or what the other models would be like. Upon arrival I got to meet the other models, who were all, (unlike myself) actual professionals! I was by far the biggest size they had and the only plus size model in the group. I’d say the second biggest size was maybe a 4/6? Despite being the biggest one there I didn’t feel intimdated. Everyone was SO nice. All the ladies where very encouraging and welcoming, I really could not have asked for a better first experience or a better group of women to be surrounded by.

I’d put on a few pounds over the holiday’s so one of the dresses they had selected for me did not fit which was dissapointing but she still had 2 I was able to wear. Of course the dresses were very long which honestly was the most difficult part. Thankfully I only tripped a couple times and didn’t fall!

One of the biggest things I took away from this weekend was that no matter how beautiful women are we all have insecurities. As I was listening to everyone talk, these gorgeous, and in my eyes perfect looking women all had things about themselves that they weren’t fond of. I think that’s just human nature and a product of the media always telling women what they should look like. The best part of the weekend was being surrounding by kind and uplifting women. It was the epitome of girl power and I loved every second of it. Can’t wait to do it again!
